(DES MOINES, Iowa) Attorney General Tom Miller today announced that Assistant Attorney General Jessica Whitney will serve as the next director of the Consumer Protection Division.
Whitney began in the division in 2004. She is a lead staff attorney in several multistate consumer investigations involving for-profit colleges and debt collection practices. Whitney also has worked extensively on in-state cases involving consumer lending, debt collection, and general consumer protection cases.
“This is a very important and prominent position in our office that touches the lives of thousands of Iowans every year,” Miller said. “Jessica brings a rich mix of great professional competence, ability and judgment, a zeal for protecting consumers, a great work ethic, and wonderful people skills,” Miller added. “She’s an excellent attorney and a true advocate on behalf of consumers.”
Bill Brauch, who began as a staff attorney in the office in 1987 and was promoted to Consumer Protection Division Director in 1995, is retiring effective July 15. Last month, the National Association of Attorneys General recognized Brauch with a lifetime achievement award in Washington, D.C.
