Sexual Assault Resources

History

The Iowa legislature has passed numerous laws related to sexual assault services. In 1979, the Iowa legislature ensured victims of sexual assault would not have to pay for a sexual assault forensic medical examination . On July 1, 1990, the Iowa Department of Justice assumed responsibility for covering the costs of sexual assault examinations at no cost to victims. Iowa Code section 709.22(1)(c)(8). Our office also manages various programs and training that support victims of sexual assault.
