If so, Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird hope you will apply to serve as a paralegal in the Health and Human Services Section.
Description
As part of Iowa’s mission to safeguard its most vulnerable citizens, the Health and Human Services Section represents the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services in a wide array of legal matters, ensuring the protection and welfare of those under the Department’s care. Its cases span diverse subject areas in administrative, state, and federal courts. Its comprehensive docket includes but is not limited to administrative hearings, motion and discovery practice, trials, and appellate matters. As a paralegal in this section, you will:
• Manage caseloads by scheduling, prioritizing, and organizing files, as well as preparing chronologies and summaries.
• Assist in all aspects of trial preparation.
• Draft, review, and edit a variety of legal documents including pleadings, motions, briefs, summary judgments, and trial papers.
• Coordinate complex discovery processes, which involve drafting, responding to, and calendaring various requests in alignment with local, state, federal, and agency procedures.
• Stay up to date on Prolaw, Microsoft Office, and Adobe.
• Communicate with client agencies, court staff, and vendors.
• Ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive and protected information.

Requirements

This position requires a high-school diploma or the equivalent; two years of full-time experience as a legal secretary, legal assistant, or similar role; and a knowledge of general office practices. It also requires effective oral and written communication, sound judgment and effective decision-making, the ability to receive and respond positively to feedback, and the ability to cooperate with others in a professional environment.

Applicants must be able, or demonstrate the ability to quickly learn how, to perform each of the duties listed in the position description above.
Pay and benefits

Annual pay ranges from $44,532.80—$65,998.40, depending on experience.
