Job Details
Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird seeks to fill several assistant attorney general positions in both the Civil Litigation Division and the Agency Counsel Division of her office.
Attorneys in the Civil Litigation division defend the State and its agencies, officers, and employees in a wide range of litigation in state and federal court, including tort, employment discrimination, and other statutory and constitutional suits. The positions offer the opportunity to get substantial trial and appellate experience immediately and to work in a collegial environment with other talented attorneys and paralegals.
Attorneys in the Agency Counsel Division provide legal advice to state agencies and represent agencies in administrative proceedings, judicial review proceedings in Iowa courts under chapter 17A, and other specialized agency litigation. Positions will offer the opportunity to work with a variety of agencies on questions of legal interpretation, rulemaking, contract drafting, and other transactional or litigation matters. Most positions will be located in the Attorney General’s Office in Des Moines; but one or more positions will be assigned to represent the Department of Transportation and will be based in Ames.

Requirements
Previous litigation, government, or judicial clerkship experience is preferred. Admission to practice law in Iowa is required.
Salary range is $55,952–$135,262.40, depending on experience.
