Raising Child Support Awareness
"Step Up to the Plate"
"Step up to the Plate" is a program implemented by the Iowa Attorney General's Office along with the Iowa Department of Human Services to promote child support recovery. The goal of "Step up to the Plate" is to honor parents and especially non-custodial parents who support their children emotionally and financially.
Minor League baseball teams across the state of Iowa have teamed up with the Department of Human Services and the Attorney General's Office to spread the word on the importance of paying child support. Typically, non-custodial parents are provided free admission to a baseball game for up to two children with a paid adult ticket. Going to a baseball game is a good opportunity for parents and children to spend time together.
Teams participating in "Step up to the Plate" are the Iowa Cubs, Burlington Bees, Cedar Rapids Kernals, Clinton Lumberkings, Quad City River Bandits, and the Waterloo Bucks. At these games, the Attorney General or an Assistant Attorney General throws out the first pitch and speaks briefly about child support recovery. It is hopeful that these events will encourage parents to "step up to the plate" and support their children emotionally and financially everyday.
